Details: DIU reported that a car driven by Mazzherin had been blown up in Russia's Kemerovo Oblast on 25 October.
Lieutenant Colonel Mazherin, 45, served in the OMON Obereg special unit of the Russian National Guard in Kemerovo Oblast.
DIU says that Obereg is one of many Russian National Guard units implicated in war crimes and the genocide of Ukrainians in Kyiv Oblast during February and March 2022, at the outset of Russia's full-scale invasion.
Based on collected evidence and eyewitness testimonies, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine has opened criminal proceedings against the unit's service members, particularly for violations of the laws and customs of war.
Quote: "Ukraine's military intelligence identified by name the war criminals from the Obereg unit back in April 2022 and planned measures aimed at ensuring just punishment for those listed."
