Volunteer Roman Zhylenkov from the EAST SOS charitable foundation shared the information on Espreso TV.“If there’s an opportunity — and even if there isn’t — people must evacuate from frontline towns and villages. Believe me, there’s no such thing as a situation where evacuation isn’t possible. You have to leave, at least temporarily. We fully understand people’s fears about not having permanent housing. But it must be said that one of the biggest problems for evacuation today is the lack of available places for evacuees to stay. We even have a term — the ‘queue of life.’ People wait for weeks in shelters to be sent to permanent accommodation. For example, just in the past week, we’ve had 30 such people. This issue needs to be addressed together with the government,” Zhylenkov said. The volunteer urged timely evacuation, warning that delays often make it impossible to get people out of frontline areas.“In the past month, evacuating from Pokrovsk has been almost impossible. There have been isolated cases when the military managed to take someone out, but those are rare. Right now, even a stray cat there becomes a target for the Russians. There’s simply no way to enter and evacuate anyone — it would be certain death. That’s why we constantly stress that evacuation must happen in time,” he emphasized. On October 19, Ukrainian TV presenter and volunteer Denys Khrystov released unblurred footage showing civilians killed by the Russian army near the railway station in Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, an area where heavy fighting is ongoing.
