He made these remarks in an interview with Bloomberg.Starmer noted that “the prospects for Ukraine are improving” following U.S. sanctions on Russian oil companies Lukoil and Rosneft.“We’re in a better place. Last week there were really significant developments,” he added.According to Starmer, the greatest achievement in this regard is the progress made on sanctions. The head of the UK government recalled that Europe first imposed restrictions on Russia’s major oil companies, then Donald Trump introduced sanctions against Lukoil and Rosneft, and the EU followed with a new, 19th sanctions package.“All within the space of a few days. That’s had a profound impact on Russia’s economy,” Starmer emphasized. On October 22, the U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, due to Moscow’s lack of readiness to end the war in Ukraine.A few days later, the company Lukoil announced its intention to sell its foreign assets due to “restrictive measures by certain states.”
