Russian opposition analyst Alexander Morozov, who is based in Prague, said this in an interview with Antin Borkovskyi on Espreso TV.“We can see that in the current phase of the war, Putin is not satisfied with the outcome — nor with the results of Russia’s so-called summer offensive. Everyone can see there has been no significant or successful advance by Russian forces. Four years into the war, it’s clear to the world that this ‘great army’ is not so great, and its resources are insufficient for any large-scale offensive operation — something Putin would certainly like to see. Against this backdrop, the ongoing purges under Putin are becoming evident. For instance, parts of the Russian opposition abroad are being reclassified from ‘foreign agents’ to ‘terrorists’ and ‘extremists,’” Morozov said.According to him, the FSB has even issued special statements about this — a particularly sinister sign. “It’s one thing when Roskomnadzor or Rosfinmonitoring says something, but when the FSB issues such statements, it reads as: ‘We’ll get you,’” he explained.“On the other hand, we see intensive purges inside Putin’s own apparatus. And the scale is striking — 155 officials are now in pre-trial detention, with criminal cases opened against them. All of them hold ranks of deputy governor or higher. At the same time, Kiriyenko, Medinsky, and the entire ideological machine are working frantically to sustain state-sponsored ‘patriotism.’ Yet military bloggers and pro-Kremlin commentators admit in unison that morale is collapsing, despite all the pomp and attempts to justify patriotism through Pushkin, philosopher Zinoviev, or anyone else. Putin, mentally, seems to live in his own enchanted forest, convinced that his people must go to the end — either die in this insane war or achieve victory. That’s his brutal logic,” Morozov concluded.
