Oleksandr Kraiev, an expert from the Ukrainian Prism Foreign Policy Council, expressed this opinion on Espreso TV."Putin is returning to the topic he voiced back in December 2021. At that time, he said that NATO must retreat to the 1997 border. However, besides that, Putin has a usual manner of communication where there are two options for behavior: his and the wrong one. He is convinced that an agreement should be concluded now that not only fulfills Russia's current whims but also its future ones. That is, this is not just an agreement, but the capitulation of Ukraine. This is the only agreement that is acceptable to Putin," Kraiev explained. The expert noted that Donald Trump is finally beginning to understand that Putin is not ready to end the war and will continue to put forward his maximalist conditions."Again, here we have the same problem that Trump is only now beginning to discover for himself. After all, before this, he believed that Putin was a normal, strong politician, 'his guy', with whom he could easily come to an agreement. However, now Trump understands that no shift has occurred in Putin's head, and this is indeed his way of thinking. He has been deceiving Trump all this time and trying to pull the wool over his eyes so that he would not see what was happening," he added.A meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin is not planned for the near future. Preparations for the previously announced summit in Budapest have been halted. On October 22, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced the imposition of sanctions against Russia's two largest oil companies — Rosneft and Lukoil — due to Moscow's unwillingness to end the war in Ukraine.
