Andreas Umland, an analyst at the Stockholm Centre for Eastern European Studies, stated this on Espreso."I suspect that Putin was telling Trump that he is for peace, but that certain conditions and agreements must be met. This has always been Moscow's narrative: that of course they don't want war, they just want to get all of Ukraine, and if they get it, there will be peace and no problems," Umland believes. The analyst emphasized that Trump sees the prospect of receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in forcing Ukraine into peace on Russia's terms."Essentially, Putin could have been telling Trump that he wants to develop Russian-American relations, that they have no problems, and that the problem lies specifically with Ukraine. In fact, Putin is trying to sell Trump a partial capitulation of Ukraine as a path to peace. This could also be interpreted by Trump as a prerequisite for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize," he added. On Thursday, October 16, U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and announced that he had arranged a meeting with him in Budapest. On Friday, October 17, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the American leader Donald Trump at the White House. The leaders spoke for over two hours. Among the key topics were security guarantees, Tomahawks, and territories.
