Reuters reported the information, citing Enagás CEO Arturo Gonzalo. The EU is currently negotiating legislation to end Russian oil and gas imports by 2028, with a possible LNG ban coming a year earlier to curb Moscow’s wartime revenues.“We are technically prepared to operate without Russian gas,” Gonzalo said, adding that Enagás already tracks LNG origins through its logistics platform and customs checks. He noted that the market could easily replace Russian supplies: “Once Russian LNG stops coming, much of it will be replaced by U.S. LNG.”According to Reuters, the latest EU draft would require gas importers to prove the origin of shipments, while exempting major suppliers such as the United States. Member states aim to approve the 2028 oil and gas phase-out next week before talks with the European Parliament.
