Unidentified drones interfere with Dutch military exercises in Poland

The Netherlands Ministry of Defense confirmed the information to NOS following reports in the newspaper AD.A defense ministry representative also noted that, in addition to the unidentified drones, communication among the soldiers was disrupted.The soldiers did not have any drone defense systems with them. The systems were delivered from the Netherlands shortly after the incidents. “There was no immediate threat. We are located quite far from the Russian border. We recognized the situation immediately and adapted right away,” said Brigadier General Frank Grandia.The airborne brigade had been in Poland for the past few weeks participating in the NATO Falcon Autumn exercises — large-scale air drills involving, among others, Poland and the United States. When the troops were setting up camp at the airfield, small drones suddenly appeared.Who was behind the drones and the communication disruptions remains unclear. “We know there are parties extremely interested in what we are doing and watching the exercises,” Grandia said. The exercises were adjusted but not canceled. Eventually, the drones departed.On October 9, the European Parliament passed a resolution authorizing European Union member states to shoot down any aircraft that illegally crosses into their airspace.On October 8, the German government passed a law that will allow police to shoot down drones. It must next be considered by the German parliament.
