Polish historian and Eastern Europe expert Łukasz Adamski said this on Espreso TV.“I won’t hide that the atmosphere in Polish-Ukrainian relations is noticeably deteriorating. Speaking about Poland, I would highlight three main factors that have led part of Polish society to openly adopt a hostile attitude toward Ukrainians,” Adamski said.According to the Polish historian, the first factor is fatigue from the war and the large presence of Ukrainians in Poland. Poles are used to living in a country with few foreigners, who usually learn Polish quickly. Ukrainians who arrived in 2022 have now been living in Poland for four years, and many of them are Russian-speaking. Polish society expects Ukrainians to integrate more quickly.“Second is the influence of Russian disinformation, which constantly fuels hostility on social media, particularly affecting young people. Third is the impact of unresolved historical issues in Polish-Ukrainian relations, including matters related to exhumations, burials, and the memory policies of both countries,” Adamski emphasized. The Polish historian concluded that the overall attitude of Polish society, which remains neutral or favorable toward Ukraine, has not changed significantly.“We still need to wait for the results of new sociological studies,” Adamski added.Russia, together with Belarus, could deploy special forces to carry out sabotage against Poland’s critical infrastructure, then blame Ukraine for it.
