Details: US Vice President JD Vance said on Sunday 28 September that Washington is considering Ukraine's request for long-range Tomahawk missiles, capable of striking deep inside Russia, including Moscow.

In addition, several media outlets reported that the US would provide Ukraine with intelligence on energy infrastructure targets located deep inside Russia.
However, a US official and sources familiar with the preparation and supply of Tomahawk missiles questioned the advisability of providing the subsonic cruise missiles, which have a range of 2,500 km.
Meanwhile, the US official suggested that Kyiv could be supplied with other variants with a shorter range.
He noted that the US may consider allowing European allies to purchase other long-range weapons and supply them to Ukraine, but Tomahawks are unlikely to be among them.
Reuters noted that US President Donald Trump has sharply changed his rhetoric on the war in Ukraine in recent weeks, stating that Kyiv can retake all the territories seized by Russia and calling Russian forces a "paper tiger".
Reuters added that "the US decision to help Ukraine target Russian energy infrastructure appears to be one tangible outcome of the new stance".
Previously: Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that if Ukraine uses long-range Tomahawk missiles, it will "harm Moscow-Washington relations".
Background:
The Telegraph has reported at the end of September 2025 that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked the United States for Tomahawk missiles during a closed-door meeting with US President Donald Trump in New York.
Zelenskyy later said that a request containing details and illustrations of Ukraine's needs has been submitted to Trump.
On 2 October, Zelenskyy confirmed that he had spoken with Trump about the possibility of the US providing Ukraine with long-range missile systems.
