But as we can see, Trump’s position—whichever side it may be influenced by—is very easy to sway,” Ostapenko said.He noted that Alaska brought one position, the meeting with Zelenskyy another, then in two weeks there may be yet another, and in a month something else again.“This is quite chaotic compared to earlier American politics, which in the 2000s and 2010s looked gradual and systematic, with an understood grand strategy. Now it’s more like statements that yesterday indeed sounded like a breakthrough. I honestly watched them, I was glad, I was satisfied reading this news. But overall, Ukrainian society has sobered up during these seven or eight months of Trump’s presidency,” the expert added.He stressed that any statements with strong symbolic impact must be reinforced with concrete, comprehensive actions.“These real actions can only come as part of a package: diplomatic pressure, financial and sanctions pressure, military pressure, and united pressure from Europe, the United States, and Ukraine.
