He made the remarks in an interview with Sky News.Commenting on last month’s U.S.-Russia summit in Alaska, Zelenskyy noted that the meeting ultimately played to Putin’s advantage.“I think it gave a lot to Putin. And I believe, if it was a trilateral meeting [with Ukraine included], we would have some result,” the Ukrainian president said.According to reports, during the talks in the United States, Russian leader Vladimir Putin proposed a deal to Donald Trump: recognition of Russia’s control over the eastern parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in exchange for relinquishing other occupied territories.Zelenskyy agreed that the Kremlin is trying to mislead Washington: “He's doing everything he can to avoid sanctions, to prevent US and Trump from putting sanctions on him, and if you keep postponing applying sanctions any further, then the Russians will be better prepared.”The Ukrainian president stressed that Putin is seeking to break out of political isolation through such meetings, and called it a mistake to give him this platform: “He should have received a setback in this war and stop. But instead, he received de-isolation. He got the photos with President Trump. He received public dialogue, and I think this opens the doors for Putin into some other summits and formats.”Zelenskyy emphasized that Putin must pay for starting the war and trying to avoid international isolation. He called on allies to act faster and more decisively: “He's waging the war and everyone is trying to stop him by arguing, by asking him - but instead force should be used. He understands force. That's his language.”The president added that sanctions and other restrictions against Russia should be imposed without delay, otherwise the Kremlin will not feel real pressure.U.S. President Donald Trump has not ruled out a possible Zelenskyy-Putin meeting but says organizing such talks would be extremely difficult because of the personal animosity between the two leaders.
