Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, said Moscow used bot farms in Poland to spread accusations against Kyiv over drones and alleged threats to Warsaw.“At the same time, they are playing on political issues inside Poland, since the recent elections showed that society is almost evenly split politically. That’s why they focus on dividing people over topics such as Ukraine, Germany, the actions of the Polish authorities, the ‘expensive missiles used to shoot down drones,’ and many other issues — including housing affordability for young people and wage levels compared to Germans. The Russians are working on all of this,” the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation explained. At the same time, Russia has stepped up its information campaign in the United States following the killing of political activist and blogger Charlie Kirk. The Kremlin is pushing online narratives about clashes between supporters of President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement and their opponents.“This is all about sowing division,” Kovalenko said. “They are also doing everything possible to prevent unity on the issue of Ukrainians and Ukraine after the killing of Ukrainian Zarutska.”He emphasized that Russia’s goal is to destabilize Polish society and widen divisions to create internal tension.“And this isn’t just about the war against Ukraine. It’s also about the Baltics, which Poland borders, and which Russia has long been eyeing. Poland is a key military power in Eastern Europe, including economically. Historical tensions between Moscow and Warsaw also play a role,” Kovalenko added.Former Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis suggests Russia’s drone attack on Poland on September 10 could be used as a pretext to limit Warsaw’s aid to Kyiv.
