Diplomat Roman Bezsmertnyi stated this on Espreso TV.He explained that agreements on the joint downing of objects do not affect relations between countries within NATO.“Such an agreement can be concluded on a bilateral basis, on a multilateral basis with partner countries, with neighboring countries. And there are no restrictions here in terms of cooperation, interaction in matters of security and defense. Because it is not mandatory to conclude a Ukraine–NATO agreement. One can conclude Ukraine–Poland, Ukraine–Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia. It is possible to conclude multilateral agreements,” Bezsmertnyi said. The diplomat noted that out of 20 drones at the moment, the fate of only five or six that were in the sky is understood.“And all of this was being shot down by fighter jets. We can imagine a situation in Europe if up to 800 such objects suddenly appear over Europe. What does it mean to lift aviation to strike them? Whom will they be shooting down? Themselves or these objects? How will the entire system work? It is already obvious that the Ukrainian position — that it is necessary to conclude an agreement on a joint closed sky and to begin intercepting not at Ukraine’s western border, but at the eastern border — is the most rational solution in this situation,” he believes. In his opinion, Russia will look for workarounds.“They will bypass through Belarus, they will bypass through the Baltics, they will bypass from the Black Sea, from the south. In principle, at least part of this territorial space can be closed, where it is much easier to operate, because beyond that things become much more difficult. Ukrainian territory is forest-steppe, not mountainous terrain cut by relief as in many European countries. Obviously, it is much easier there, for example, for cruise missiles to hide behind the terrain. In such conditions it is much harder for air defense and missile defense systems to operate,” the diplomat stated. He added that there are many arguments showing that today it is urgently necessary to accelerate this process.“Moreover, such cooperation should not only concern missile defense and air defense. Such a system should also include unmanned aviation, which is intended to play a role in air defense, as well as other technological components which have already been tested and proven in Ukraine. Given that the threat of attack and the expansion of the front and the use of Russian forces against European and NATO countries is growing — this means that such agreements between Ukraine and its European partners, including within the European Union, are justified, motivated, and necessary,” Bezsmertnyi noted. The diplomat stressed that the necessary work and initiative from Ukraine already exist.“Not to mention the idea voiced by the Ukrainian side regarding early warning of attacks. In this regard, it is obvious that the 1,000 kilometers from Ukraine’s eastern to western border allow for early notification, including for the populations of European states, about the threat of attack,” he concluded.Russian drones in Polish airspace: What we knowThe Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces placed air defense and aviation units on high alert following Russia’s night attack on Ukraine on September 10, during which Russian drones entered Polish airspace. Reports indicate that more than 20 UAVs were involved. In a village in Poland’s Lublin Province, debris from one drone fell on a house, though no injuries were reported.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the violation of Poland’s airspace by Russian drones, calling it a dangerous precedent for all of Europe. On Wednesday, September 10, NATO activated Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty after Russian drones violated Polish territory.
