Ukraine proposes joint production of sea drones with New Zealand

Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on Facebook.During the meeting, Shmyhal thanked the people and leadership of New Zealand for their comprehensive support in Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression. He briefed them on the current battlefield situation, key needs of the Ukrainian army, and discussed priorities for bilateral defense cooperation.“In particular, I suggested exploring opportunities for cooperation in the production of sea drones,” Shmyhal specified.The meeting also covered prospects for a bilateral security agreement, participation in the coalition of the willing, and humanitarian projects.“I proposed that New Zealand participate in funding programs for the rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians freed from captivity. We also highly value the involvement of New Zealand instructors in the Interflex program for training Ukrainian troops,” the minister said.He expressed gratitude to New Zealand for helping counter Russia’s shadow fleet.“I called on our partners to continue and strengthen sanctions pressure on the aggressor, including the issue of confiscating frozen Russian assets,” Shmyhal added.In June, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Foreign Minister Winston Peters announced new aid for Ukraine totaling about $9.4 million.
