DW reported the information, citing dpa.The German parliamentary group leaders made their first joint visit to Kyiv, and it is the first trip to Ukraine for both. In Kyiv, they plan to discuss Germany's continued support for Ukraine and diplomatic efforts to end the war.“Matthias Miersch and I are here to send a clear signal: the CDU/CSU and SPD government factions stand now and in the future on the side of Ukraine, the brave Ukrainians who are defending their homeland, their country, and also Europe,” Spahn told reporters upon arrival.Responding to a question about security guarantees for Ukraine, including the possible deployment of troops, Jens Spahn said the best guarantee is a well-equipped Ukrainian army.“The first and most important security guarantee for Ukraine is the Ukrainian army. First and foremost, we want to equip it as well as possible,” the CDU/CSU leader said. Matthias Miersch confirmed his agreement.German politicians avoided directly answering questions about deploying Bundeswehr soldiers in Ukraine but did not rule it out.“First of all, the plan was to arm and equip the Ukrainian army, provide it with constant support, and then, together with the Americans, provide Ukraine with security guarantees. There are many options for what exactly and how this will be done, which will be discussed during the negotiations,” Spahn added.Earlier reports indicated that, in the event of a possible peace agreement, 10 European countries have expressed readiness to send troops to Ukraine to provide security guarantees.European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Europe has a “pretty precise plan” for a possible troop deployment as part of post-war security guarantees.
