Military news outlet Militarnyi’s editor-in-chief, Mykhailo Liuksikov, explained this on Espreso TV.“The U.S. is transferring ERAM missiles to Ukraine, funded by our European partners. This missile program was launched under the Biden administration to create a low-cost, long-range strike option — over 250 miles, or more than 460 km. The warhead was announced at 550 pounds, which is about 227 kg. The system was planned to be built using an existing 500-pound fragmentation-explosive aerial bomb, with the addition of an engine and glide surfaces to achieve long range — reportedly over 400 km,” Liuksikov said.According to him, these missiles will help protect Ukrainian aircraft. Currently, with existing air-to-surface munitions like the American JDAM or the French HAMMER, Ukrainian jets are forced to enter the zone of Russian air defenses.“But with the arrival of ERAM, our aviation will gain the ability to operate under safer conditions. At the same time, the strike range deep into enemy territory will increase. If today we are able to hit Russian army command posts at the battalion, regiment, and brigade levels, after receiving ERAM missiles, division- and army-level command posts may also come under threat. Plus, a range of other targets that our Defense Forces may identify as necessary,” Liuksikov noted.Trump’s administration has approved selling 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM) missiles to Ukraine for $850 million.
