Putin thought that Zelenskyy would blink first and refuse to meet with him, while Zelenskyy and the Europeans thought that Putin would blink first and refuse. So the only result of the meeting is an expected meeting between the President of Ukraine and the Kremlin orc. It's absolutely obvious that this meeting makes no sense. Putin hardly changes his positions regarding ending the war, and we cannot fulfill them. If such a meeting does take place, it will be another battle over shifting responsibility for derailing the peace process."But what's more important: Putin is clearly winning from the possibility of this meeting. He continues to buy time hoping that our front will collapse any moment now."Now his game will be as follows: for several weeks, the Russians will lead everyone by the nose regarding the meeting location. Moscow, Minsk, Budapest, Geneva, etc. They will propose inconvenient cities to us, and we will refuse. This will give them time. After the city is finally agreed upon, the Russians will demand preliminary negotiations at the level of foreign ministers or delegations like Medinsky's. This will allow them to gain another few weeks or months. Then the final moment will come, and Putin will look at the battlefield map and decide whether this meeting is needed at all. This situation is unacceptable for us. Our goal is to get sanctions from Trump against the orcs faster. Those he imposed against India are already working, and that's exactly what forced Putin to start the negotiation game. Two months ago, he directly told Trump to go away, and now he's even ready to meet with Zelenskyy."Therefore, it's in our interest to hold the meeting quickly or otherwise prove that Putin doesn't want peace. My vision is that in case of delaying the meeting, we should again demand from Trump to achieve a ceasefire as proof that Putin is committed to peace."There's another dangerous moment in this whole story. Despite many Ukrainians considering Trump an idiot, he certainly is not. He understands well that there's little point in a Zelenskyy-Putin meeting. Therefore, he insists on it for another reason - to wash his hands of it. If we don't reach an agreement at this meeting, which is most likely, then Trump will say: I'm fed up with this, I'm ending my participation in the peace process. And he'll remove this headache from himself. It won't be a catastrophe for us - we'll continue receiving weapons, but we might not get sanctions against Russia. And in today's situation, only sanctions bring the end of the war closer. However, on October 10th, Trump will receive his Nobel Peace Prize, and after that, achieving peace with Putin won't be as important to him anymore. Perhaps he'll impose sanctions, provide weapons, and wait until one of the sides falls.SourceAbout the author.
