And what about international conventions, core international treaties, UN resolutions on aggression — even the Constitution of the Russian Federation? None of the participants in the planned Washington meeting seem willing to refresh their memory on those!Europeans now want to secure some kind of illusory non-aggression guarantees from Putin..."Americans truly believe that the principle of guaranteeing or mediating agreements that themselves violate international law will not eventually come back to hit them like a boomerang... "Ukrainians somehow hope that security guarantees equivalent to Article 5 of the Washington Treaty are not just another carrot they will never be able to bite. But if they are “almost equivalent,” then why not NATO membership itself — even now, without the temporarily occupied territories?!If things continue this way, we should not be surprised if pressure mounts on us to hold the next (planned as trilateral) meeting in Budapest. We will end up with a one-way Budapest Memorandum 2.0 — with the very same consequences. This must not be allowed!SourceAbout the author.
