Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) (2014–2015), retired Major General of the SBU, military and public figure Viktor Yahun shared his opinions on Espreso TV.“Russia wants a ceasefire, an air ceasefire, and they also talk about a naval one, but only outside active combat zones, somewhere in the rear, I don’t know the exact limit, maybe 40–50 kilometers from the front. They actively use guided bombs, which really trouble our Armed Forces, and obviously, they have no intention of stopping their use. What would stopping strikes mean? Strikes on peaceful cities, they might actually stop those, as we understand civilians suffer. But military experts say that if this starts without any prospect of a future full ceasefire, it would seriously undermine our capabilities on the front lines,” he said.Viktor Yahun noted that Ukrainian strikes on enemy targets inside Russia are "really painful" for the opponent and important for Ukraine in terms of weakening Russian capabilities.“Indeed, they are experiencing huge problems with fuel inside the country and with the railway, which is now at the last moment forced to give up many things. They are effectively unable to handle not just domestic transport, but primarily military transport. So our strikes are really painful, and Russia does not like it. How will this look? Again, I emphasize, if this is one of the stages of an overall ceasefire, then it could be seen as a step in some direction. But if it is just a component — ‘we stop here now, and we’ll discuss there’ — then that is definitely not in our interests,” added the retired SBU Major General.
