First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Kyslytsya made this statement in a comment to Ukrinform. The diplomat noted that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s timely statement rejecting territorial concessions to Russia and expressing readiness for decisions that would ensure a just peace has formed the basis for consultations. Negotiations continue daily at various levels, with most partners supporting Ukraine’s stance, creating consensus on key principles.Kyslytsya stressed that the meeting in Alaska is not decisive, though it could pose challenges for Putin, whom President Trump has forced to partially reconsider his tactics."I believe that as of today, a consensus has formed among Ukraine’s partners on the most fundamental points of our negotiating positions, which these countries share. I want to assure you that the meeting in Alaska is not the end of the world — unless it becomes so for the president of the Russian Federation, who may still fail to realize that endlessly manipulating the United States, and President Trump in particular, is extremely dangerous," the diplomat said.He urged not to play into Kremlin propaganda, reminding that European leaders are united in the view that a forcible change of borders is unacceptable, and that peace in Ukraine is important for all of Europe.Kyslytsya assured that Kyiv is participating in the peace process, and claims about its exclusion are a distortion."I am, in principle, moderately optimistic. These peace talks will not be an easy path. Of course, there will be a lot of hype. But let's, as they say, keep a cool head," he concluded.BackgroundOn August 8, Bloomberg and WSJ reported that U.S. President Donald Trump may be willing to accept Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s terms to formally recognize Russian control over parts of occupied Ukrainian territories. On the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump said that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine would involve some exchange of territories.Later, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he would hold a meeting with the Russian leader Vladimir Putin in the state of Alaska next Friday. Before the Trump-Putin meeting, senior officials from the U.S., Ukraine, and European countries are set to hold talks to coordinate their joint positions.Media also reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy might join the meeting between the American and Russian leaders. However, at a briefing on August 11, Trump noted that he will meet with Putin first, and later there might be a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy, or all three together.
