Germany to fast-track delivery of two Patriot missile systems to Ukraine

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius reported the information.In return, the United States will rapidly provide Germany with two next-generation Patriot air defense systems to replace those that Germany will transfer to Ukraine.“Germany can initially support Ukraine with the launchers, and then with additional Patriot system components. This once again shows: Germany is the strongest supporter of Ukraine in the field of air defense,” Pistorius stated.The delivery of two Patriot systems has been confirmed by Ukraine’s Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal.According to him, as a first step, the Bundeswehr will provide additional launchers, followed by the handover of other system components over the next two to three months.“This is the result of joint efforts by the U.S., Germany, and other NATO countries. We are grateful to all our partners involved in this project. More air defense capabilities for Ukraine mean more lives saved,” Shmyhal emphasized.On July 21, the United States and Germany reached an agreement to provide Ukraine with five Patriot air defense systems. They are to be delivered as soon as possible.On July 23, it was reported that the first of the five promised Patriot air defense systems might arrive in Ukraine in at least eight months, that is, next year.
