Defense Express military expert Ivan Kyrychevskyi stated this on Espreso TV."According to official data from the Air Force, the Russian army used eight ground-launched Iskander-K cruise missiles in the attack on the capital. We hadn’t heard much about these missiles before, because until a certain point, the Russians were producing only 2–3 of them per month. But at the beginning of 2025, something changed in Russia’s strategic priorities, and they began to manufacture these ground-launched subsonic Iskander-K cruise missiles in very large quantities—about the same volume as the Kh-101 missiles for Tu-95MS and Tu-160 bombers," Kyrychevskyi noted.According to the military expert, based on data from the Main Intelligence Directorate, as of early June this year, the Russians had 300 Kh-101 missiles for strategic aviation and 300 Iskander-K missiles."When a strategic bomber takes off or when a carrier of the corresponding cruise missiles goes to sea—a submarine, frigate, corvette, or a Tu-95MS or Tu-160—these are very large objects. It is impossible not to notice them with all available means. And even if you can’t see the missile itself launched from such a carrier, at least you know where to look for it, using acoustic or visual methods to track it.But the insidiousness of the Iskander-K missile lies in the fact that its carrier is a small launcher, which is very difficult to detect. And if you spot it at a low altitude in the final stages, you might simply not have time to shoot it down. This is a very serious challenge for us. Even with a sufficient number of radars, launchers, and anti-aircraft missiles, you might not be able to cope with these missiles," Kyrychevskyi explained. The military expert added that, unfortunately, the Iskander-K missile has the lowest interception rate."In other words, it is very difficult to counter. And the Russians have obviously drawn the appropriate conclusions and ramped up the production of these especially dangerous cruise missiles. There are two types of Iskander-K: one with a range of up to 500 km, and another up to 1,500 km. Therefore, we must be prepared that such insidious and dangerous missiles could reach Lviv and other western regions of our country," Kyrychevskyi emphasized. On the night of July 31, the Russian army attacked Ukraine with missiles and Shaheds. At least 15 people were killed in Kyiv and more than 100 residents were injured.
