General Ben Hodges, the former U.S. Army Europe Commander, said this in an interview with Antin Borkovskyi, host of the Studio West program on Espreso TV.“There is no doubt that the nature of warfare is changing right now, and Ukraine is at the very center of this transformation. Drones and other autonomous systems have become powerful new tools, but that doesn’t mean the role of ground forces has lost its importance. You can’t hold or capture territory with drones alone. I see drones as a type of munition—a weapon that must be skillfully integrated into the overall concept of military operations,” the general noted.According to him, if we recall last year, when Ukraine launched its counteroffensive in the Kursk region, despite Russia having thousands of drones, Ukrainian forces managed to make a surprise breakthrough across the border without significant detection.“Today, without exaggeration, Ukraine is the world leader in conducting combat operations under constant surveillance and with the broad application of drone technologies. I hope the U.S. Army is closely watching this experience and drawing lessons on how to adapt to these new realities. Ukraine could very well become the first country to develop an effective strategy for countering enemy drones,” Hodges concluded. On July 4, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine plans to massively scale up the production of interceptor drones. Ukraine and Denmark are developing an AI-based drone interception system. Odd Systems, known for its Kurbas thermal imaging cameras, will collaborate with Denmark’s Terma Group to create an affordable AI-powered drone interception complex.
