Journalist Vitaly Portnikov shared this opinion on Espreso TV."Right now, the key issue is keeping military cooperation between Ukraine and its partners going. We're already thinking about how this support will continue after the current U.S. aid package runs out. And I want to remind everyone that this is the very package approved by Congress during Joe Biden’s presidency," he said.Portnikov added that once Putin rejects Trump’s ultimatum, the U.S. president will have no choice but to seriously consider increasing aid to Ukraine."We can now say with confidence that support for Ukraine will continue. Discussions about a new model for aid are taking place at many levels," he noted, adding that the 50 days Trump gave Putin won’t just mark the end of an ultimatum — they will force Trump to address both his stance on Putin and the future of U.S. aid to Ukraine."This is the key issue we must focus on. Once the current aid package runs out, we need to consider how further support will be provided. Right now, I see an active search for ways to continue helping Ukraine," Portnikov stressed.Earlier, Donald Trump announced that he would impose secondary tariffs on Russia, which could reach 100% if a peace agreement with Ukraine is not reached within 50 days.Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev called U.S. President Donald Trump’s 50-day deadline for a peace deal with Ukraine a “decorative ultimatum” that Moscow didn’t even notice.U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham says Putin should call Iran’s leader Khamenei to find out what happens on day 51 if Trump’s conditions on Ukraine aren’t met.Meanwhile, on July 18, reports emerged that Chinese leader Xi Jinping plans to invite U.S. President Donald Trump to Beijing in September for the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
