This is stated on the website of the UK government. These sanctions aim to cut off the flow of oil revenues to Putin's "war chest" and paralyze the operations of his weakened shadow fleet. The new restrictions, in particular, affect 135 tankers that have illegally transported cargo worth$24 billion since the beginning of 2024.Restrictions have also been imposed on the company INTERSHIPPING SERVICES LLC, which registers shadow fleet vessels under the flag of Gabon, annually transporting goods worth $10 billion in Russia's interests. The sanctions have also targeted LITASCO MIDDLE EAST DMCC, which is linked to the Russian oil giant Lukoil and is involved in transporting large volumes of Russian oil via shadow routes. In addition, Britain and the EU have lowered the price cap on Russian oil.UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy stated that the latest package of sanctions is aimed at dismantling the illegal scheme for transporting Russian oil, which feeds the Kremlin's war economy. According to him, the new restrictions will further undermine Russia's shadow fleet and significantly reduce its energy profits."As Putin continues to stall and delay on serious peace talks, we will not stand idly by. We will continue to use the full might of our sanctions regime to ratchet up economic pressure at every turn and stand side by side with Ukraine," Lammy emphasized. He stressed that the United Kingdom continues to adhere to a principled position regarding those who support the Russian energy sector, including those who facilitate oil transportation, assist in maintaining shadow fleet vessels, and participate in financing the illegal war.On July 18, the EU Council approved the 18th package of sanctions against Russia. In response, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev stated that Russia would intensify attacks on Ukraine.
