This was stated by Matthew Bryza, former Director for Europe and Eurasia at the U.S. National Security Council, in an interview with Antin Borkovskyi on Espreso TV.Bryza made this comment in response to a question about the whereabouts of the U.S. President’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff."I have no idea. I don’t have direct access to these people anymore, unlike in my previous career. Yes, Steve Witkoff has been out of the news for a couple of weeks. It could simply be that he’s on vacation," the diplomat said.Bryza emphasized that Witkoff remains one of President Trump’s most trusted advisors and his closest counselor on international affairs."President Trump has made it clear that he deeply respects his fellow New York City property developer as a brilliant dealmaker. So your guess is as good as mine as to why Witkoff seems to be taking a break. But it's summer time, so it could very well be a vacation," he said.Read also Trump seeks to increase pressure on Putin during these 50 days — diplomat BryzaBryza also commented on the activities of U.S. Special Representative to Ukraine Keith Kellogg."As far as General Kellogg is concerned, it’s a very good sign that he is now more visibly engaged. We know that President Putin and the Kremlin complained about Kellogg to President Trump, calling him pro-Ukrainian and anti-Russian. So it’s encouraging to see Kellogg now appearing more publicly, and his value in Trump’s mind seems to be increasing. I hope it stays that way," he said.He suggested that perhaps Trump has finally realized that Putin was manipulating him, and that the way he and Vice President Vance treated President Zelenskyy during their February meeting in the Oval Office was a mistake."At that time, Trump was distancing himself from General Kellogg. Now, as Trump shifts his attitude toward Putin and Ukraine, he may be realizing that Kellogg was right all along and that he should have listened to him. Whether this shift also means that Trump thinks Witkoff was being manipulated by Putin or was naive, I have no way of knowing. It could be that. But as I said, it could also just be that Witkoff is taking a summer break," Bryza summed up.
