Major General of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Serhiy Kryvonos shared his opinions with Espreso TV."The problem is that Europe talks about concerns and the threat of a direct Russian attack, but at the same time, it’s Europe that helped grow the very monster it now fears. If you look at how much oil, gas, and other minerals Europe bought from Russia, directly or through second and third countries, from 2022 to 2025, you’ll see the difference: aid to Ukraine amounts to tens of millions, while purchases total hundreds of millions," he said.According to the general, Europe built this monster and now realizes it can devour them."Europe is preparing, but faintly hopes the Russian attack won’t come. They've understood that right now, they lack the forces, resources, and manpower. All the talk of a joint European force in Ukraine, 25,000 to 40,000 troops, has vanished from public discussion. They’re not even recruiting for it," Kryvonos said.He believes NATO now understands it isn't ready for the scale and complexity of the war unfolding on the Russian-Ukrainian front."That’s why they’re trying to buy time, and by sacrificing Ukraine, they’re protecting their own interests. That’s why our job is to be more direct and demand tougher measures. First, a full embargo on Russian goods, even those routed through third countries. And second, increased military support to the Ukrainian Armed Forces from NATO countries," he added. He stressed that the best way to force Russia to stop is to break its oil pricing power."This is a serious blow. Why is oil crucial for Russia? Because it affects everything from harvesting to autumn plowing to sowing winter crops. Disrupt that, and there’s famine. The main issue for Russia is that, after losing even a small number of refineries to our strikes at the start of the year, they lost 25% of their oil and gas revenue. That’s a major hit. Afterward, the U.S. and NATO started whining, telling us to stop because they started losing. They drink and devour this oil and gas. But we were on the right track and should have kept going – burn, burn, burn. The top priority is to destroy Russia’s energy sector, that’s what will deliver results and bring our strategic victory closer," Kryvonos concluded.
