Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, shared the information on Espreso TV.“They temporarily control the entire Azov coast. Russia even tried to claim in its legislation that the Sea of Azov is its internal water, meaning some international maritime laws wouldn't apply there. This is absurd — stealing doesn’t give legal ownership,” he said.Pletenchuk added that although Russia controls the coastline, it does not control the waters — Ukrainian forces haven’t seen Russian warships there for over a year.“We don’t see them because Ukraine, especially the Navy, controls the waters,” he said. “The Russians have felt this themselves and know it well. They still use the sea for official purposes, and various ships continue to enter both official and unofficial (occupied) ports. We are tracking some of them under international law, but it’s very difficult, some ships flying foreign flags enter Russian ports in the Sea of Azov.”Pletenchuk stressed that Russia has almost completely removed its warships from the Sea of Azov.“In the Black Sea, it's aviation, not the fleet, that shows the most activity,” he said. “The fleet now mostly consists of small boats like the Grachonok and Raptor, which handle counter-sabotage tasks. These boats are stationed at harbor entrances, such as Donuzlav and Sevastopol Bay. That’s all they do. They don’t dare send surface ships out to sea to control anything.”He added that while Russian submarines still go out occasionally, that’s the extent of their naval activity.“This is interesting from an economic and military point of view. The Black Sea Fleet has a large number of personnel, but it’s become a money pit — Russia is pouring resources into it without results,” Pletenchuk said.
