The Financial Times reported the information. Two unnamed senior officials told the publication that although Trump’s recent statements have given Europe “some hope” for a possible shift in his position, there are currently no real signs that the White House is adopting a more pro-Kyiv stance.According to the publication’s sources, Ukraine’s Western allies still believe that Trump is inclined to see Putin as his main partner in negotiations for any settlement, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as the main obstacle to reaching an effective peace agreement.“There is a bit of excitement about the change in tone. But we don’t see this translating into any serious actions,” one of the officials said.At the same time, the publication notes that Zelenskyy has recently become more successful in getting along with Trump.Sources told the publication that French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, after a dispute between Trump and Zelenskyy in the Oval Office, advised the Ukrainian president to change his approach to relations with the head of the White House.Macron and Starmer suggested he express sincere gratitude and always thank Washington for its support, the sources said. However, the publication adds that Zelenskyy still has to deal with an administration in which skepticism about helping Kyiv is deeply rooted—both among those who believe the U.S. should focus more on Asia rather than Europe, and among others who adhere to a philosophical position of non-intervention.Trump recently, for perhaps the first time, expressed doubt that the Russian leader “seeks peace,” and said that Putin “talks a lot of nonsense.”In addition, the American president announced an “important statement” regarding Russia to be made on Monday.
