He stated this in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald.According to him, satellite images taken in May indicate a large-scale deployment of infrastructure — in particular, the construction of hangars for fighter jets, helicopter bases, storage facilities for armored vehicles, and new military camps. The Finnish-Russian border, which is 1,340 kilometers long, is the longest stretch of contact between Russia and any NATO member country."Our basic scenario is very simple," Stubb emphasized. "Over the next 5-10 years, two things will be true about Russia. First, it will not return to being a peaceful liberal democracy. Second, it will continue to build up its military power."He also noted that Moscow is unlikely to change its aggressive policy in the near future. And after the war in Ukraine ends, the Finnish leader believes, Russia will have an army of a million."And when the war in Ukraine ends, which will happen sooner or later, you will have to ask yourself: what will happen to 1.2 million soldiers? Some will retire, some will do something else, but the bases will remain. And where will Russia build these bases? Of course, they will build and send them here — to the border with Finland," Stubb added. "So this is nothing new. We see the movement of soldiers, we see the development of infrastructure. This is normal. We have done the same."On July 4, President of Finland Alexander Stubb announced the country’s withdrawal from the convention banning anti-personnel mines. Earlier, the parliament had approved this by a majority vote.
