The press service of Ukrenergo reported the information.According to the statement, this increase is the result of cooperation between transmission system operators from Eastern European countries and the TSCnet coordination center.“Increasing the maximum export capacity is an important step that will help balance Ukraine’s energy system. It will also allow Ukrainian power plants to earn additional revenue, which can be directed toward eliminating the consequences of Russian attacks and preparing for winter,” Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko said.He clarified that exports are only permitted when there is a surplus of electricity. The head of Ukrenergo, Vitalii Zaichenko, explained that in the summer, when solar power plants are operating at full capacity, exports help avoid excess generation.“To prevent emergencies, the energy system must operate in a balanced way—the amount of energy produced at any given moment must match the amount consumed. In the summer, during the effective operation of solar power plants, increasing electricity exports is one way to overcome excess generation, so that power plants do not have to be restricted,” he said.“The new export limit is valid until August 1, after which the maximum export capacity will be reviewed monthly. During weekly assessments of the grid’s condition, the export volume may be adjusted according to operational safety requirements,” Zaichenko added.Previously, since May 1, the maximum export capacity was 650 MW.Starting December 1, 2024, the maximum capacity for electricity imports from EU countries will be 2.1 GW.
