ERR reported the information.A court in Estonia found two Moldovan citizens guilty in the case of the arson of the Slava Ukraina restaurant in Tallinn, which occurred in January of this year. According to the investigation, this and other crimes were ordered by Russian special services.The Estonian State Prosecutor’s Office charged two Moldovans, born in 1992 and 1987, with crimes. The younger man was charged with espionage and sabotage for the Russian GRU, while the older was charged with property damage. Investigators claim that the younger man had previously carried out arson attacks as part of Russia’s hybrid war against Estonia and its allies.The Moldovan was tasked with setting fire to the Slava Ukraina restaurant in Tallinn, which was chosen because of its pro-Ukrainian stance and symbolic significance. The older man broke a window and set the building on fire, while the younger filmed the act. The video appeared on YouTube on February 2, confirming the propagandistic aim of the operation—to intimidate Estonians and Russian-speaking residents.The younger of the accused was not just damaging property, but was cooperating with hostile intelligence, undermining state security, which is classified as espionage under Article 234, Part 2 of the Estonian Penal Code. After a plea deal, the court sentenced the younger man to 6.5 years in prison and the older to 6 months, with the possibility of release in August.On June 28, Lithuania and Estonia informed the UN of their withdrawal from the treaty banning anti-personnel mines due to the threat from Russia.
