Ukraine charges Russian soldier for executing Ukrainian POWs in Kharkiv

This was reported by the press center of the SBU.According to the report, the suspect is 36-year-old Russian national Sergey Tuzhilov, an assault rifleman from the 69th Motorized Rifle Division of the 6th Russian Army. The case files indicate that he has two previous convictions for robbery and drug trafficking.The investigation revealed that Tuzhilov participated in battles near Vovchansk in June 2024. During an assault on a local factory, Tuzhilov and an accomplice shot three Ukrainian soldiers who had been captured. It was documented that Tuzhilov personally shot one of the tied Ukrainian soldiers in the back of the head with his service weapon.Additionally, the criminal selected locations for the execution of two other prisoners and guarded the perimeter during the shootings. All three victims died on the spot as a result of gunfire from automatic weapons.The SBU investigation also established that before the executions, the Russian soldiers tortured the prisoners, tying them to posts.During subsequent clashes, Ukrainian defenders destroyed Tuzhilov’s unit, and he was captured as the only survivor.In the course of the investigation, law enforcement officers established all the circumstances surrounding the crimes committed by Tuzhilov and his accomplices.SBU investigators have informed Tuzhilov of the suspicion of aiding in the cruel treatment of prisoners of war, combined with premeditated murder, and committing a war crime, also involving premeditated murder as part of a group conspiracy.The Russian soldier faces life imprisonment.
