Manhattan University professor Igor Aizenberg expressed this opinion on Espreso TV."Donald Trump has long wanted to organize a meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Putin. He believes that after such a meeting, the issue of resolving the Russian-Ukrainian war would move forward. It just seems to me that Putin has no desire to meet either with Zelenskyy or with Trump. Trump would like to meet with Putin. But Putin does not need this meeting; he can keep Trump at a distance and promise the possibility of a meeting. I don't think Putin's actions show any desire to hold a meeting in the format of those currently taking place in Istanbul. After all, he is not interested in any peace negotiations. He is interested in Ukraine's capitulation. He would agree to such a meeting if Trump promised him that Ukraine would accept his terms and effectively capitulate," Aizenberg explained. The professor emphasized that for any American president, discussions about the use of nuclear weapons are unacceptable. Therefore, Trump's reaction to Medvedev's threats was entirely predictable."As for Trump's reaction to Medvedev's statements, I would say that this is a natural reaction for an American president. The Biden administration reacted differently; for example, they sent the CIA director to meet with the head of Russian intelligence. In this way, the Russian side was informed about the inadmissibility of such rhetoric. Of course, no American president is interested in Russia even talking about the use of nuclear weapons," he added. On June 26, Turkish President Recep Erdogan stated that his American counterpart, Donald Trump, expressed his willingness to participate in possible peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in Turkey, if Russian dictator Vladimir Putin also agrees to them.
