Hungary Today reported the information.According to Orbán, 2,284,732 Hungarians participated in his referendum, and supposedly 2,168,431 voted against Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.“My voice has become stronger and more masculine, and I will say at the negotiations, on behalf of more than two million Hungarians, that Hungary does not support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union,” the Prime Minister stated. At the same time, Bloomberg notes that Orbán has long used such surveys as a political tool to achieve results that align with his policies, even though these “national consultations” are not binding. In particular, critics question the credibility of the results announced by the Hungarian Prime Minister. It is noted that Hungarian citizens could vote online by providing only their name, age, and email address, meaning one person could vote multiple times. It is also impossible to independently verify the government’s claim that more than 2 million Hungarians voted.Earlier, the leader of the Hungarian opposition party Tisza, Péter Magyar, called Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s referendum on Ukraine’s EU accession a “complete failure.”The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Hungarian officials are inventing non-existent threats from Ukraine to scare their citizens, commenting on Budapest’s referendum regarding Kyiv’s accession to the European Union.
