Details : Sikorski thanked the Europeans in Geneva who tried to prevent the escalation of events in the Middle East. He said that the EU did everything in its power in this situation. Meanwhile, he stressed that events in the region would have an impact on the Russo-Ukrainian war.
The Polish minister said that the regular part of the Foreign Affairs Council would begin shortly, with the participation of the Ukrainian foreign minister. He noted that the dramatic events in the Middle East were expected to affect the war in Ukraine as well. Sikorski said that Russia had intensified its airstrikes and bombings, taking advantage of the situation, leading to yet another deadly day in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.
Sikorski stressed that the escalation of tensions in the Middle East is raising oil prices, which in turn increases revenues to the Russian budget.
He also expressed hope that the EU would approve the 18th package of sanctions against Russia this week.
Upon arriving at the meeting, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called for the use of all diplomatic tools to force Russia to negotiate.
Background : Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has already called on the EU to remove the proposal to ban Russian energy supplies from the agenda due to the expected increase in energy prices following the bombing of Iran by the United States.
